0719: Closeted

A glimpse into my closet, a work in progress.
I've always had issues with making places feel like home. When I left "home" at 19, everywhere else I lived felt so temporary. I never bothered to decorate or organize because no where felt like it would ever last forever. I can't believe I left home in December 2006 and have lived in five cities since then - Tallahassee, Chicago, New York, Orlando and now San Francisco. I don't know that anything has felt or will feel quite like home. I always thought that once I got a job, once I started my own life, once I was working on my own projects that suddenly something would click and I would feel settled. I think I was mistaking success with a feeling of familiarity. I'm realizing now that, as cliche as the saying is, home is truly where the heart is. My heart lives with my family, my best friends, my tumultuous romance. I think I will always feel like an aimless wanderer on a futile search for comfort until my body can be where my heart lives.

That so true what you say...i left home when I was 18 to for studying in florence.after 3 years there,i got a job in Rome where I live since 2008. My family lives 6 hours away from here...when I grow up i always wanted to leave my hometown, now sometimes i am thinking to go back there one day!

I know the feeling, in the last 4 years I've had 6 different flats! I just moved in a new one with my boyfriend and his brother and it finally feels like home, ive been decorating and organizing and im loving it!! I know it's still temporary but i still want to make it nice :)
i hope you find your home soon, altho I'd say SF is a really good choice!!

in response to your comment on my post:
I completely agree in trying to find a balance. I also agree that people leave careless criticisms as opposed to constructive criticisms. some people are just sippin' on that hate-a-rade.

your closet looks awesome! I am moving out of my house in maybe 2 weeks. although I'm only moving about a 30 min. drive away from home. recreating a sense of familiarity is something so necessary, yet so difficult to do. I wish you the best of luck in merging your heart and your body into one location... <3 and should you EVER ever ever come to Texas, (Houston, Dallas, or Austin), I would totally love to meet up!

I agree with you 100%. I have moved from apartment to apartment over the last six years but nowhere has been a place that I felt should be my home for the long run. Sure I have cozy furniture and all sorts of nik naks, but there is always something missing. I don't think I could have said it better than you did.

I can't believe I am just stumbling across your blog now. I'm quite smitten! :)
You are gorgeous and I love your style.

I've always wanted to take a closet shot, but too lazy.

I envy that you've been able to live in so many cities. I think it's an important experience. It's not like traveling. I hope one day you find a place that makes your heart happy :)

i can relate.

i thought that one i reached my goals in life i'd be satisfied with everything. but clearly, when i'm home, i'm comfortable. but i think that's what success is. success isn't about comfort. to get to that point, you have to fight your way there and being comfortable isn't going to get you anywhere.

let it be your safe haven and continue succeeding in life. i may join you in cali, so hey! :)
